Chickens have been shown to be emotionally sensitive to the welfare of their peers, and demonstrate stress reactions when they believe other individuals to be subjected to discomfort.
Chickens are Complex
Flocks have a social hierarchy with complex social interactions. Individuals try to impress and even manipulate other members. Hens assist friends with incubating eggs and watching chicks.
